CORE and Learner agency

As part of my CORE course I asked my learners for feedback on certain questions. They were very kind to me and made an effort to complete them.

While the brief for the work was to gather audio or video files we have discovered that my learners are not happy with hearing their own voices or seeing themselves on video so most completed written responses and then uploaded these to their blogs. (Is this an example of learner agency?)

Overall, learners enjoyed a variety of different ways of learning - digital, teacher directed, textbook, and different environments - quiet, listening to music, noise in the classroom. Three male learners enjoyed the digital programs available - probably because of the self paced learning that was being achieved?

I think the answers provided showed the variety of learning styles in the classroom and the importance of learner agency when it comes to learning. No learner gave exactly the same answer so why do we expect learners to be wanting to learn the same material the same way?

I have added links to the answers from my students - their blogs are public and monitored - we are part of the Manaiakalani initiative which is about Learn, Create, Share.

crazy eights

We have discovered that:
 a) identifying our plastic bag usage is a difficult concept as we all use different methods of 'counting' plastic bags
b) we feel that producers/suppliers need to take some responsibility for plastic usage as it is too late once products hit the shelves.
I believe my 'moonshot' is... forcing producers/suppliers to adjust packaging rather than expecting only consumers  to adjust their actions.
It was interesting that we all had different skills to share with each other e.g uploading images, using webcams, writing on blogs (finding the new post button).
